Sketch In Place

It started out as a personal challenge to draw again during the pandemic. I never would have guessed after a lifetime of drawing, that doing something like this would be such a great creative outlet, thrill of joy-spotting and catalyst for my love of sketch and drawing.

With my first set of Caran d’Ache watercolor pencils and an assignment for the New York Brooklyn Art Library: The Sketchbook Project, I was hooked. I then went on to draw these places: buildings, homes, architecture and signs that inspired me. I have always loved architecture, history and especially buildings that highlight the craftsmanship and detail of both.

These are all places that I’ve been to and photographed. I use the photo as a visual reference, but then free hand draw and color each sketch with watercolor pencils.
